week 2: G.Q.Q.L
The writing process
We started off the day by writing the schedule and fixing yesterday's blog by correcting any misspelled words and fixing capitalization and punctuation.
After we fixed the blog, we then skimmed through the pages of last night's homework which were pages 75 - 99 of S.T. Then, we talked about the pages that we read. We also talked a bit about how tone can change the meaning and/or definition of a word or phrase. After, we looked back over the pages and we wrote our summary.
Then, we went to our reading notes and quickly looked over what we wrote from yesterday such as the grammar and the quote. Then, we wrote our first line which was "I was made for the library, not the classroom. The classroom was a jail of other people's interest; the library was open, unending, free." by Ta-Nehisi Coates.
We talked about the writing process:
1. pre-writing
2. drafting
3. revising
4. editing
5. publishing
Lastly, we packed up and left the class.

We started the day with doing breathing exercises while writing out agenda for the day into our binder reminders.
Then, we started to read Levi's blog and make corrections to it.
After that, we started silently reading the book School Trip for a few minutes to review or catch on our homework.
Then, we went over the pages in School Trip and spoke about it.
We opened our RJ and wrote a summary of pages 52-75.
Afterwards, we turned to our Grammar page and wrote a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson.
"To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment."
We answered a question making us explain what we thought he meant by saying that quote.
We then answered the questions "What do you hope?"
After, we listened to a song called "We Are Going To Be Friends" by The White Stripes.

On the third day of school Ms. Nakada collects the rest of the first day letters that we did not give to her on Tuesday. Then, she goes over the book we read for homework, School Trip by Jerry Craft page 1-23 and asks the class questions about the book.
After going over homework, Ms. Nakada passes out college-ruled notebooks to students who don't have them. The class writes down their first and last name on their notebooks. The class also writes the date on the last page of the book and starts the beginning of the reading journal.
That concludes the third day of school.

Welcome to our first class blog! Way back on Monday, the first day of school, my first period class came in after Academy Time. They found their way into seats at tables around the room, and we were ready to get started.
The first thing we did was introduce ourselves. I passed out the course outline, and then we talked about materials, grading, homework, and rules. Students signed their understanding.
Next, we moved on to the course syllabus. Each table did popcorn reading of the units we will study fall and spring semester.
